This graphic design was inspired from a vision to promote Adoptees to turn the tides on non-adoptees speaking for us. It’s a way to spark an open dialog with those OFFLINE in our real lives and communities to share how it feels to be adopted. It’s another way to speak up and share our stories because we matter and our stories matter. It’s a way to share our truth as we see it by sparking conversations with others. This gives us a gateway to share our truth but also opens a window of a possible teaching opportunity for anyone who’s not adopted who might have the willingness to learn from our very valuable lived experiences.
One year ago this month I received the results from my Ancestry DNA test. Within 24 hours I had found my birth mother. I'm not going to lie, I was in shock. The reason this graphic design was so important to me is because we live in a world that glorifies the very same thing that causes adoptees trauma: ADOPTION. There is no other trauma but adoption that is glorified, celebrated and put on a pedestal like adoption is.
